چکیده

Odontoid fractures are relatively common upper cervical spine injuries, comprising up to 20% of cervical spine fractures. The treatment of odontoid fractures remains controversial, and is evolving with the advent of new fixation methods. Recently, many endoscopically-assisted procedures have been performed for various types of spinal surgeries to minimize invasiveness and to avoid soft tissue injury. We present the case of a 55-year-old man who underwent endoscopically-assisted anterior screw fixation for rostral type III odontoid fracture in Taiwan. A literature review of the current management of odontoid fractures and postoperative complications was also performed. Anterior Screw Fixation of Anteriorly Displaced Type III Odontoid Fracture Corrected by Transoral Digital Manipulation

Type III odontoid fractures have been treated by several methods. In case of anteriorly displaced type III odontoid fracture which is not corrected by closed reduction, anterior screw fixation cannot be used. We report the first case of anterior screw fixation of anteriorly displaced type III odontoid fracture corrected by transoral digital manipulation.

Three-dimensional image navigation system-assisted anterior cervical screw fixation for treatment of acute odontoid fracture.

This study is to investigate the role of three-dimensional image navigation system for surgical treatment of odontoid fracture. A total of 21 patients were enrolled in this study. The anterior cervical hollow screw fixation was performed for treatment of acute odontoid fracture under monitoring of isocentric C-arm three-dimensional navigation system (Iso-C 3D) navigation system. The postoperati...

Anterior endoscopically assisted bone grafting for iatrogenic distraction of odontoid fracture after percutaneous anterior screw fixation

RATIONALE The complication of iatrogenic distraction of odontoid fracture after anterior screw fixation has not been reported in the literature. We treated the patient with endoscopically assisted bone grafting with good results. The new technique was not reported in the management of odontoid fracture or nonunion before. PATIENT CONCERNS A 22-year-old man presented with neck pain after a mot...

Delayed Pharyngeal Extrusion of an Anterior Odontoid Screw

A 27-year-old woman with a type II odontoid fracture was treated by anterior odontoid screw fixation. Radiographic union at the fracture site was obtained 3 months after surgery. Nearly 3 years after surgery, she presented at a local Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) clinic with a 2-month history of dysphagia. Laryngoscopy identified the head of the odontoid lag screw. Plain radiography showed that t...

Treatment for odontoid fracture with C1 lateral mass and C2 pedicle screws using intraoperative orbic-3-dimensional navigation

Objective: To assess the technical advantages of intraoperative orbic-3-dimensional navigation in the treatment of odontoid fractures. Material and methods: Twelve male patients with type II or rostral type III odontoid fractures were treated with posterior C1LM-C2P screws fixation using the orbic-3D fluoroscopic navigation. The follow-up period ranged from 12 to 24 months with a mean of 19.2 m...
